It was really strange, there has been some assholes that lite off fireworks for no reason, and it did snow today, so I dismissed it as thunder snow. But admittedly the old man I am and the wife & I have sinus congestion and head cold we were in bed by 8:30. It happened at 8:54. I am up still starring at my phone and I seen the flash and heard the boom. Pretty interesting, although I feel like I’m in the Donnie Darko movie now.

Everyone with ring doorbells and security cameras are putting up videos on socials by now. The damn aliens are skipping rocks across earth again.

Yeah, now that I know it was a meteor, I’m thinking, when will the next one be? Will it hit my house..... lol.

I can’t sleep now.

Maybe you can find solace in thinking about just how incredibly massive the earth is, and how incredibly small a meteor is by comparison. Highly unlikely that another one ends up anywhere near you. And you don’t want to go down that train of thought, because what if one hits your car whole you drive? What if one hits you at the store? You’d end up staying in a bomb shelter for protection. Meteors aren’t worth worrying about.

But check your homeowner's insurance just in case.

TBH I hope that if I was killed by a meteor that whoever was in charge of my eulogy and or tombstone would come up with some witty remarks to have inscribed on my burial site. Ooh ideally the rock that did me in would be embedded in my headstone. On display. Would be an interesting way to be remembered. Be like “Oh yeah, MaximaSpeed is the dude who God threw a rock at from heaven”

My captain and I believe we saw this from the air. Flying from nawlins to Chicago. STL was clear but from out vantage and position, there was a cloud layer beneath us. We saw two large bluish glows of light in the cloud tops, matching the flashes on video there. Other than UFOs, there’s nothing out there that could have been that big of a flash in the clouds. Even nav strobes. Pretty wild.

So I did look up that meteors burn up at about 22 miles up or 116,000 feet. You guys cruise around 30,000 right?

I bet that was some interesting cockpit discussions.

I did look up that they burn up 22miles up. So if I get taken out I wouldn’t even hear it. And it have to be gigantic to be burning for 22 miles plus.

And I don’t think they come directly at earth, something about gravity and such.

I just have the ice covered roads to deal with.

And I thought so too but who knows about this. That's burn up, this is exploding pieces. Like that Russian one that exploded and shattered windows. That was def lower than 22 miles up I think .

Very meet data. That’s 56 miles up roughly. We were South and above a cloud deck so there was parallax to that position. Who knows how it represented. We probably didn’t see that then, however with great circle curvature and distance, I can’t say it was for sure or definitely wasn’t. But thanks for posting that. Quite cool what we can do with just cam footage.
